How does evaporative cooling contribute to environmental protection?

Evaporative cooling makes responsible and sustainable use of water, favoring the reduction of its consumption, as well as its reuse in a safe way, thus contributing to the protection of the environment. At a time like the current one in which one of the great challenges is, in addition to respecting the environment, energy saving, this technology becomes an alternative to keep in mind.

The use of water as a natural refrigerant, the principle of operation of evaporative refrigeration equipment – cooling towers and evaporative condensers – guarantees the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions contributing to the protection of the environment, increasing energy efficiency and ensuring Environmental and economic sustainability. These equipments offer an ideal combination of energy use and installation cost, which results in an optimal investment / performance ratio compared to similar solutions. But how do evaporative refrigeration equipment reduce energy consumption?

Its electricity consumption is lower. In air cooling systems, increasing the condensation temperature decreases the refrigeration production of the installation, that is, to produce the same cooling effect, a compressor, an electric drive motor and a condenser of higher sizes and costs are required.

The reduction of energy consumption is achieved for two reasons: the efficiency of the process and the high energy efficiency it offers. Efficiency is given because, the greater the efficiency of the industrial process, the lower the amount of energy lost and the easier it is to get rid of waste heat. The high performance derives from the fact that evaporative cooling allows to achieve water cooling temperatures of up to + 25 ° C or less, as well as the use of intermediate heat exchangers, so that the processed fluid can be cooled in a closed circuit up to 30 ° C or less.

Emissions of greenhouse gases

Water is a common denominator of all the challenges of sustainable development and evaporative refrigeration equipment ensures its quality – guaranteed by the control and maintenance to which said equipment is subjected -, its reuse, its effective use and the reduction of its consumption. In addition, the use of water as a refrigerant, which does not provide CO2 emissions, makes it a clean and environmentally friendly technology that favors the reduction of the effects of climate change.

It is necessary to emphasize the little water footprint (HH) that leave behind a benefit in line with water security. This environmental indicator evaluates the total volume of fresh water used in the production of goods and services, an element to be taken into account in the evaluation of the economic and environmental cost of any product. The Water Footprint not only allows you to evaluate which technology is more convenient at any time and for each application, but also is an awareness tool, since the estimates it offers help to reflect on the need for optimal management of the water.

Technological improvements allow us to consider that the drag phenomenon, with high efficiency separators placed on the market, represents between 0.01% and 0.002% (in certain models) of the recirculation water flow, the amount of water that could get lost in the drag is between 20 and 100 times less than evaporated water and up to five hundred in some models.

Consequently, the amount of water lost by trawling is not significant and the aerosol output is of no practical importance if the standards related to the quality of drop separators, assembly and maintenance of the equipment are followed.
