Aefyt’s Evaporative Refrigeration Group considers that the draft is not consistent with existing regulations

The article begins with the introduction that the draft of the new Royal Decree on Legionella replacing Royal Decree 865/2003 has been public since February 18, 2021.

This Royal Decree is expected to be published during the current year, and will adapt the legislation to current epidemiological information in Spain.

The article continues by commenting that the Evaporative Refrigeration Manufacturers Group of the Association of Cold Companies and their Technologies (Aefyt) is preparing allegations to the draft of the new Royal Decree on Legionella, since, among other aspects, they disagree with the Legionella levels included in the new draft, insofar as they do not correspond to those approved due to the update, in 2017, of the UNE 100030 Standard, which establishes the framework for the prevention and control of Legionella. This standard, revised with the collaboration of the Aefyt Towers Group in order to introduce the necessary aspects to adjust it to the needs of the market, went ahead with the support of the Community of Madrid and the Ministry of Health and with Legionella levels that they were considered adequate. In this sense, the Group considers that the UNE Standard represents in itself a sufficient argument for the new Royal Decree to take it as a basis with regard to the Legionella levels to be considered and the actions to be established in each case.

Secondly, they claim the widespread use of rapid detection techniques in facilities likely to harbor Legionella bacteria, insofar as they are current, proven and highly useful, provided they have their corresponding certifications.
