To do this, they hung damp mats or carpets at the entrances to the houses, and the water vapor that emanated from them by the action of the sun, caused the temperature to drop and the environment to become humid.
A primitive but effective system. Also the Persians, in the Middle East, used the wind to alleviate the heat inside their buildings, and the largest had high columns that exerted like wind towers, facilitating the passage of the breeze. The Romans, in later times, used a more developed system, inspired by the network of aqueducts, which allowed to reduce the temperature inside the villas.
